Based on the 2017 Philippines National Demographic and Health Survey (NDHS), the average total fertility rate (TFR) of women is three (3) when their desired fertility rate is two (2).  Moreover, poor women have five (5) children due to unintended/unplanned pregnancies.  With regards to modern contraceptive prevalence rate (MCPR), the 2017 NDHS reported that 40% is the MCPR of the Philippines, while CALABARZON has 36%.

The Philippines has recorded a total of 180,916 live births among adolescents aged 10 to 19 in 2019, according to the data from the Civil Registration and Vital Statistics System of the Philippine Statistics Authority. The figure is equivalent to 495 live births per day in the 10 to 19 age group.  More alarming is the information that about 7 live births were born to children 10-14 every day in 2019.

With all the data above, clearly, there is a need to address the gap between the wanted and actual fertility and the alarming increase of teenage pregnancies.
